The adventure of doing something new...

From as early as I 2011, I was fascinated by startups, but it was not until 2015, that the startup bug really hit me. This led to me quitting my job in 2017 and embarking on the journey of my first startup.

“Even though I was as an experienced developer, learning new technologies on my own was incredibly challenging”

Cyndi Moyo, tidalbase founder

Despite already working in Tech, it was clear to me that I still wanted to develop technology that helps people, with real practical implications. For Headlo (my first startup), I wanted to develop new techonology that would make looking stylish super easy, even for those who do not have the aesthetic eye (for example, people like me). This involved developing all the tech from scratch, but even though I was as an experienced developer, learning new technologies on my own was incredibly challenging.

It wasn't until the 100% home-office life of 2020, that I became fascinated by the idea "Someone working online knows the answer to my question right now - what if I could just connect with them right now?". I would picture reaching in through the screen of my laptop, and pulling out another human being across the world, answering my question on Stack Overflow.

We already have google, Facebook, forums and many other avenues where you can post your questions and get answers from potentially a great many people. But I really wanted something that could give me that virtual environment of being in an office, where you can politely wander over to a team mate's desk and ask a question

Sometimes you just want someone to chat with in the moment ... someonewho can be a sounding board ... someone who knows the frustrations of what you are going through. So we started working on tidalbase to provide that instant connection with likeminds, so you can have the companionship you need to help you excel, even if you are not part of a big team.

We started with the initial version of tidalbase, with the big hopes of connecting likeminds working on exciting projects. Initially, tidalbase was meant to a catch-all platform for anyone working from home. But we quickly realised we could really fine-tune the platform for software developers and learners in order to make the idea of immediate-person-to-answer-your-question a possibility.

But why focus on software developers and learners? Well learning to code is hard, learning new technologies is also challenging, having the motivation to keep working through a super dry tutorial is unbelievably hard and boring. There are countless memes that wonderfully capture the hell of debugging software. This is the modern reality for people working on getting into tech and for those already in tech.

We believe that tidalbase is that next step in the evolution of co-working technology, something that fits around your busy schedule, while still providing you with a network and authentic connection to help you stay-on-track and develop exciting technologies.
